History

  • June 16, 2003 - the article of Incorporation of the IAPDB was submitted and accepted by the Secretary of States' office.
  • By August 15, 2003, 23 driving businesses became members.
  • 2003 - The first IAPDB Conference was held with the purpose of hiring a lobbyist and drafting legislation designed to alleviate the issues the Department of Education, Driver Education department was demanding for various things. By Idaho Code, the Department of Ed, Driver Education through licensing could ask for financial statements, schedule of fees, character a reputation of operators, insurance (SDE wanted to be on our insurance policies), and previous personnel and employment records.  ALL OF THIS WAS DETERMINED AT THE DISCRETION OF 1 PERSON, the acting Supervisor of the Public Driver Education program who was also our biggest competitor!
  • 2004 -  IAPDB was invited to review proposed changes to the public school rules; we found they ran contrary to the best interest of driving businesses.  We agreed to sit down and hammer out the issues; the end document was presented to the legislature.  However, it was not the same document we agreed upon.  After testimony from the driving businesses, the Bill was defeated.
  • DSAA - Driving School Association of Americas - as more businesses became involved in the IAPDB, that triggered an interest into seeing what was happening nationally in Driver Education. A most important fact discovered was of all the Driver Education & Training programs in 13 Western states, only 2 states were supervised by the Department of Education.
  • 2009 marked the defining moment when driving businesses moved away from the Department of Education to the Idaho Bureau of Occupational Licensing.  With this move came a licensure and regulatory Board.  IAPDB remains as an advocate for Driving Businesses.
